The Legal Catalyst is a student-driven platform dedicated to simplifying law, spreading awareness, and providing opportunities for young legal minds to engage with real-world issues.

About the Competition

The rapid growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has revolutionized industries across the globe. But can machines truly replace the human element in law?

This competition invites law students across India to explore the futuristic question: AI in Law: Can Robots Replace Lawyers?

Participants are encouraged to analyze opportunities, risks, and ethical challenges posed by AI in the legal profession.

  • AI as an assistant vs substitute in the legal profession
  • AI and access to justice in India
  • Ethical, moral and accountability issues in AI-based systems
  • Global comparison: AI in courts and law firms worldwide

Submission Guidelines

  • Original and unpublished work only (Plagiarism <10%).
  • Word Limit: 1000–2000 words (excluding footnotes/references).
  • Language: English.
  • Format: Word (.doc/.docx) or PDF.
  • Font: Times New Roman, 12pt, 1.5 spacing; Footnotes 10pt, single spacing.
  • Citation Style: Bluebook 20th Edition / ILI (consistency required).
  • File Naming Format: ParticipantName_CollegeName (e.g., AmanVerma_NLUDelhi).
  • Co-authorship: Not allowed (individual entries only).

Registration

  • Fee: ₹29/- per participant (non-refundable).
  • Mode of Payment: UPI Id- ishaansingh399@okicici
  • After payment, participants must fill the official Google Registration Form [https://forms.gle/UQ8KAp667KPmbu8BA] and upload payment proof.
  • Confirmation will be sent within 24 hours, by adding in WhatsApp group

General Rules

  1. Multiple entries from one participant are not permitted.
  2. Once submitted, entries cannot be modified or withdrawn.
  3. Essays must reflect independent research, critical analysis, and original arguments.
  4. AI-generated content without proper attribution will be disqualified.
  5. Organisers reserve the right to publish selected essays with due credit.
  6. The decision of the Judging Panel and Organising Committee will be final.

  • Originality and Creativity – 25%
  • Research Depth and Legal Reasoning – 30%
  • Relevance to Theme – 20%
  • Structure and Clarity – 15%
  • Citation and Referencing – 10%

Winner – ₹500 + Certificate of Merit + Publication
1st Runner-Up – ₹300 + Certificate of Merit + Publication
2nd Runner-Up – ₹200 + Certificate of Merit + Publication
